A Korean with a foreign nationality is entitled to receive the veteran's benefit under the 「Act on the Honorable Treatment and Support of Persons, etc. of Distinguished Services to the State」 or the 「Act on the Honorable Treatment of Persons of Distinguished Services to Independence」.

If a person who is or was insured under the National Pension Scheme loses his nationality, he may receive a lump-sum refund upon his or the survivors' claim.

A Korean with a foreign nationality is entitled to receive the veteran's benefit under the 「Act on the Honorable Treatment and Support of Persons, etc. of Distinguished Services to the State」 or the 「Act on the Honorable Treatment of Persons of Distinguished Services to Independence」 (Article 16 of the 「Act on the Immigration and Legal Status of Overseas Koreans」).
Payment of compensation to those who lost Korean nationality (Refer to Ministry of Patriots & Veterans Affairs - Compensation and Honorable Treatment - Veteran Payment)
- Those eligible for compensation payment
· A person who was a Korean national but lost his Korean nationality
1. A person who was registered as a person of distinguished services to the State or the survivor thereof, but was removed from the register owing to loss of nationality
※ Cases where a person whose priority was changed to a lower priority survivor and thus is receiving pension benefits are excluded.
2. A person who was not registered as a person of distinguished services to the State or the survivor thereof and has lost his Korean nationality, but satisfies the requirements of a person of distinguished services to the State or the survivor thereof
· A person who had a parent or grandparent with Korean nationality, from among persons who have not obtained Korean nationality, has obtained a foreign nationality, and meets the requirements of a person of distinguished services to the State or the survivor thereof
- Compensation types
· Compensation, nursing allowances, lump-sum payments for the deceased, allowances for distinguished military service, allowances for the children of the soldiers and policemen who died during the Korean War, etc.
- Application for compensation payment
· Applications for compensation payment are made to the Ministry of Patriots & Veterans Affairs' regional offices and district offices of the final address of compensation receipt.
· If the regular personal conditions report is not submitted, compensation payment shall be put on hold until the report is submitted.
- Means of compensation payment
· The compensation is paid as follows when the person receives compensation himself.
√ If the person uses a specific bank ⇒ Deposit is made to the person's bank account
√ If the person does not use a bank ⇒ A demand draft is sent to the person's residence
√ Payments are made in May and November
· If a proxy residing in Korea receives payment, a monthly deposit is made to the deposit account of the proxy.
※ When there is a payment mistake, the proxy shall return the payment under joint and several responsibility with the person himself.
Lump-sum refund under the National Pension Scheme
Lump-sum refund
- If a person who is or was insured under the National Pension Scheme loses his nationality, he may receive a lump-sum refund upon his or the survivors' claim (Article 77.(1).3 of the 「National Pension Act」).
